About B&N Custom Rods Brad and Norm Chafee B & N Custom Rods is the result of a love for beautiful & hot custom cars. Norm & Brad Chafee have been in the automotive field for many years. Norm is the former owner of Norm's Automotive in La Crescenta, California. Son, Brad, worked with his dad for 18 years so both father & son have an extensive knowledge of auto mechanics. After 27 years in the auto repair business they decided to make a business doing what they have always loved to do, building street rods & custom cars. They also have years of experience building high performance motors & love the challenge of making them "bigger & better". Both Brad and Norm have always loved hot rods & drag racing. Brad is the owner, driver of a '67 Nova drag car. This Nova is a show piece & also a drag race winner. Brad was the A/GAS winner at the '07 March Meet at Fomoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California running a 7.60ET at 180mph. The entire '67 Nova was built by Brad & Norm. It is a 500" blown alcohol Chevy & runs consistently in the mid 7's. Both Norm & Brad agree that owning B & N Custom Rods is a lot more fun & rewarding than doing general auto repair. They truly love this business. About Norm I went to work for a Pontiac Dealership right out of high school working alongside my dad. After working for Dealers for 13 years I decided to open my own business, Norm's Automotive, in La Crescenta, California. Of course I could not have done this alone and always had the support of my wife, Linda. Along the way we had 3 great children, Dean, Teresa, & Brad & 10 wonderful grandchildren. Dean is the manager of an IT Department in a large computer firm, Teresa is an RN, & Brad is my partner at B & N Custom Rods. I always had a love for speed & high performance. In 1980 I took on a new challenge of building & racing drag boats. We raced boats with the NJBA & IHBA for 20 years holding the ET & MPH record in Comp Jet for many years thanks to our partners, Jim & Linda Guthrie and our "Jimmy the Jap" driver, Jimmy Marushigi. My next challenge was to become part of my son, Brad's, drag racing team & go drag racing with his '69 Camaro. We raced this Camaro for about 8 years, mostly with the Goodguys Association in B/Gas. We wanted to move up to A/Gas so we built a new '67 Nova. Not only is this Nova a great runner, but a beautiful showpiece. We had the great fortune of winning A/Gas at the 49th Annual 2007 March Meet at Fomoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. This Nova is a 500ci Blown Alcohol Chevy. It is a car show winner & race track champion. So much for racing and back to working!! Brad & I decided a few years ago to close Norm's Automotive & do what we love most-building beautiful show cars & high performance street rods so we started a new business, B & N Custom Rods. It is so rewarding to take a car shell & make it into a show winner. It is great to go to work everyday & love what you do.
